Got The Latest Cell Phone?
Have you got the latest cell phone yet? The new improved do-it-all cell phone is probably the most desired product of 2008. Was there life before cell phones? How was it possible to live without them? They have become a way of life. Some can't do much of anything without a phone at their ear.
I was at the store the other day. While I was waiting to pay, the lady in front of me was balancing a baby on one arm, a toddler in a stroller, her wallet in her other hand, handing money to the cashier-all while talking on her cell phone! With today's technology we can call almost anyone, anywhere, anytime, about anything. It's become our primary method of communication.
But which came first, the cell phone or prayer? For God's people, prayer is supposed to be our primary method of communication. We can have a direct, hands free connection with our all-powerful God anytime. We don't have to use our minutes and shouldn't wait for nights or weekends.
In fact, we should pray first. We don't even have to speed dial. Prayer is faster than that! Our words instantly come before Almighty God who loves us more than anyone on our contact list and has unlimited power to help us. We never have to leave a message. He's always ready to hear us. Psalm 55:17 states, "Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, And He shall hear my voice."
The Father allowed His Son to die for us so that we may have free, open and complete communication with them. No dropped calls, you're never out of range, no call waiting. The call of prayer is always answered. Psalm 66:19-20 "But God has listened; he has heard my prayer. Praise God, who did not ignore my prayer or hold back his love from me." (NCV)
While the cell phone is cool technology, it can't compare to the spiritual communication we have with God. Let's be sure to practice Colossians 4:2 - "Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart."
